Empty Cabinet – Technical Overview and Supply
An empty cabinet, also referred to as an enclosure cabinet, junction box, or distribution board enclosure, is a fundamental component in electrical and automation installations. These cabinets are designed to house and protect electrical equipment such as circuit breakers, contactors, relays, PLCs, and terminal blocks. They are typically constructed from materials like sheet steel, stainless steel, or polycarbonate, offering varying degrees of protection (IP ratings from IP54 to IP66 or higher). Key technical specifications include dimensions (height, width, depth), mounting type (wall-mounted, floor-standing, or flush-mounting), material thickness, and ingress protection against dust and water. Empty cabinets may also feature pre-punched mounting plates, cable entry points (glands or knockouts), and lockable doors for security. They are available in single-door, double-door, or multi-door configurations, with options for transparent windows for visual inspection of internal components.
Applications and Sectors
Empty cabinets are deployed across a wide range of industrial and commercial sectors. In industrial automation, they serve as the backbone for control panels, housing PLCs, drives, and I/O modules. In power distribution, they contain switchgear, busbars, and protective devices. They are also used in building management systems for HVAC controls, lighting panels, and security systems. Typical environments include factories, substations, data centers, commercial buildings, and outdoor installations where weather resistance is critical. The choice of cabinet depends on factors like ambient temperature, corrosive atmosphere, and required degree of protection.
Subcategories and Key Articles
This category includes various subcategories such as wall-mounted enclosures, floor-standing cabinets, stainless steel enclosures for hygienic environments, and polycarbonate enclosures for lightweight applications. Key articles often follow a coding system that includes material type, dimensions, and IP rating. For example, a common code might be "CAB-SS-600x400x250-IP66" indicating a stainless steel cabinet with dimensions 600x400x250 mm and IP66 protection. Other examples include "CAB-PC-300x200x150-IP65" for polycarbonate enclosures. These codes help in identifying the exact specifications for procurement.
