Industrial differential switches from 80 A and 5SM2 blocks are high-performance residual current devices (RCDs) and residual current circuit breakers with overcurrent protection (RCBOs) designed for demanding electrical installations. These devices are available in 2-pole and 4-pole configurations, with rated currents from 6 A up to 125 A, and short-circuit breaking capacities up to 10 kA. They feature various trip characteristics including type AC, type A, type B, and type B+ for universal, pulsating, and AC/DC sensitive fault currents, as well as selective (S) and short-time-delayed (K) versions for discrimination. Rated voltages cover 230 V AC for single-phase and 400 V AC for three-phase systems. The portfolio includes modular residual current units (RC units) compatible with Siemens 5SL4, 5SY, and 5SP4 series miniature circuit breakers, as well as integrated RCBOs combining overcurrent and earth leakage protection in a single device. Sensitivity options range from 30 mA for personal protection to 300 mA and 500 mA for fire prevention and equipment protection.
These industrial differential switches are primarily installed in main and sub-distribution boards within commercial buildings, industrial plants, data centers, and infrastructure facilities. They are essential for protecting electrical circuits against earth faults in motor control centers, lighting distribution panels, heating and ventilation systems, and power supply units for machinery. The selective and short-time-delayed versions are particularly suited for tiered distribution systems where coordination between upstream and downstream protective devices is required to ensure continuity of service. They are also widely used in renewable energy installations, such as photovoltaic systems, and in EV charging stations where DC-sensitive residual current protection is mandatory.
All devices comply with international standards IEC 61008 and IEC 61009 for residual current devices and RCBOs, as well as relevant EN and VDE regulations. They are designed for DIN rail mounting in standard 18 mm modular enclosures. The 5SM2 and 5SU1 series are fully compatible with Siemens SENTRON protection, switching, and measuring technology, ensuring seamless integration with other Siemens components such as busbars, auxiliary contacts, and signaling devices. The modular RC units allow flexible combination with Siemens 5SL4, 5SY, and 5SP4 MCBs to create customized protection solutions.
At Electric Automation Network, we offer the complete range of Siemens industrial differential switches and RCBOs with real-time pricing and availability. Our engineering team provides personalized technical support to help you select the correct device for your specific application, whether you need a 30 mA RCBO for socket outlet protection or a selective 300 mA RCD for a main distribution board.
